Surgical Care for Your Jaw

What Is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is outpatient treatment that involves surgery inside the mouth or along the jaw. For this service, we may remove a tooth, place bone graft material into a socket, smooth sharp bone ridges with alveoloplasty, or position a dental implant with a surgical guide. Bone grafting uses synthetic material as a scaffold while your own bone grows into place. These procedures are planned with the end result in mind and you go home the same day.

Heal with less stress

Benefits of Oral Surgery

When a tooth, bone, or jaw area needs more than routine care, the right treatment can make the next steps feel manageable instead of overwhelming. Oral surgery gives us a way to address those deeper concerns with a plan built around recovery and long-term stability. You can move forward knowing the problem has a clear path forward.
Go home the same day
This is an outpatient procedure, so you do not need a hospital stay after treatment. You can rest in your own space, follow your instructions at a familiar pace, and let your day settle back into a normal rhythm more quickly.
When bone is preserved after an extraction, the area keeps more of its shape for what comes next. That can make later replacement more predictable and help you avoid the frustration of losing valuable support while you wait.
Smoothing uneven bone after extractions can make a removable denture feel more manageable and less irritating. You get a better fit, fewer sore spots, and a mouth that is easier to live with during everyday wear.
When the jaw has the right foundation, a replacement tooth has a stronger place to live. That stability can help you feel more at ease chewing, smiling, and trusting that your restoration is built on solid ground.
Oral surgery can help us treat a problem area without putting extra strain on the teeth around it. That matters when you want to keep the rest of your smile working well and avoid unnecessary wear on healthy structure.
Knowing what to eat, how to rest, and what to expect after surgery can make healing feel less uncertain. You are not left guessing, which helps the recovery period feel calmer and more manageable from day to day.

Move forward with a stronger foundation and a smoother recovery.

Right for more people

Who benefits most from Oral Surgery?

If your mouth needs more than a standard fix, Oral Surgery may be the next step. We help you sort out whether your situation calls for a simple, outpatient approach that supports comfort and healing.

Needing space prepared

When a tooth has to come out before something new can go in, you may be a strong fit. Bone grafting helps preserve the area so your mouth has a solid foundation for the next phase.

Getting rid of rough edges

If dentures have to fit well after extractions, sharp jaw ridges can get in the way. You may need Oral Surgery to smooth those areas so your mouth feels less irritated and more balanced.

Pursuing implant support

A missing tooth can leave you wanting a more stable long-term solution. You may be a good candidate for guided implant placement when you want a thoughtful plan built around function and confidence.

Do Any of These Sound Familiar?

We’ve helped thousands of patients who arrived at our office with stories just like yours. They’d been living with these challenges for months or even years before discovering their solution. You might recognize yourself in one or several of these experiences.

What to expect

Oral surgery procedure steps for a smoother visit

A clear plan can make oral surgery feel more manageable. We keep the experience judgment-free and pressure-free, so you can stay calm while your care moves forward. You are not just a number, and your comfort stays front and center.
1

Start with a Plan

Your visit begins with a careful evaluation and a conversation about what has been bothering you. If you feel nervous, that is completely normal, and we make space for your questions so you can feel informed before anything starts. That first conversation helps you feel ready, not rushed.
2

The Surgery Visit

During the procedure, you stay in an outpatient setting and can head home afterward. Depending on your needs, this may involve a bone graft, alveoloplasty, or guided implant placement. The visit is designed to keep you comfortable while your care moves forward with precision.
3

Heal and Move Forward

Afterward, you go home to recover in familiar surroundings and rest with soft foods nearby. Over the next few months, the area heals and settles as your mouth adjusts. You walk away with a stronger foundation for future treatment and more peace of mind about what comes next.

Patient FAQs

Oral Surgery FAQs

Oral surgery can bring up a lot of practical questions about healing, comfort, and what happens after treatment. We keep the answers clear and judgment-free, and if you do not see your question below, reach out and we will walk you through it.

What oral surgery do we offer?

We provide outpatient oral surgery that includes bone grafting, alveoloplasty, and guided dental implant placement. Bone grafting can preserve the ridge after an extraction, while alveoloplasty, or bone ridge smoothing, helps prepare the jaw for a better denture fit.
When a tooth is removed, the supporting bone can begin to resorb, or shrink. Bone grafting places graft material in the socket to act as a scaffold for new bone, which helps maintain the height and width needed for a future implant.
Alveoloplasty is also called bone ridge smoothing. We open the gums, remove sharp ridges of bone between extraction sites, and smooth the jaw bone so a removable denture can fit more comfortably and avoid pressure spots.
We use a fully guided approach for implant placement. A cone beam CT scan and an intraoral scan help us create a surgical guide, and Dr. Feldman places the implant with the final crown in mind from the start.
That depends on what your mouth needs and how much healthy bone is available. We evaluate the area carefully and only recommend oral surgery when it is the right step for your situation, whether that means preserving bone or planning for a future implant.
Most oral surgery outpatient, so you go home the same day and recover in your own space. You will usually want soft foods for about a week, and we give you clear instructions so you know what to expect during healing.
Yes, like any surgery, it deserves careful planning. Even so, these procedures are done in an outpatient setting, not a hospital, and we keep your health in mind at every step. If surgery is needed, we talk through why before moving forward.
After ridge preservation, the grafted site usually needs about 3 to 4 months of healing before implant placement. That waiting period gives the bone time to develop enough support for a stable implant foundation.
You are not alone, and we expect many patients to feel that way. Our approach is calm, conversational, and pressure-free, and we explain each step before we begin so you know exactly what is happening and why.
We are a privately owned, dentist-led practice in Gainesville, FL with guided implant planning and experience in bone grafting and alveoloplasty. Dr. Feldman is a Fellow of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists and has completed extensive implant training.

Expertise and Compassion

Meet Dr. Greg Feldman, DMD

Dr. Greg Feldman earned both his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Dental Medicine degrees from the University of Florida, making him a proud Double Gator. With over 1,800 hours of continuing education, he holds credentials achieved by only a small percentage of dentists nationwide, including his Fellowship and Mastership in the Academy of General Dentistry (FAGD and MAGD) and his Fellowship in the International Congress of Oral Implantologists (FICOI).

His passion for dentistry started in the dental chair. Born with a congenitally missing adult tooth, he experienced firsthand the life-changing impact of quality dental care. That personal connection drives his commitment to making every patient feel heard, comfortable, and confident in their treatment.

First impressions are very important. When I entered the Gainesville Dentistry Co. office, I was immediately impressed by its cleanliness and a very pleasant fresh scent. The receptionist and Dr. Feldman’s assistant Narlyn were very welcoming and friendly. I was very impressed by the comfortable modern chair and the state-of-the-art equipment. The Xray charts were clearly positioned in front of you while the doctor explained and pointed out the results and necessary treatment. When I met Dr. Feldman, I recognized him as the dentist whose patient I was, briefly, years ago in Ocala before he left my area. I was looking for him for a long time before I found him in Gainesville. I came to Dr. Feldman for a second opinion. He was extremely generous with his time and explained very thoroughly what was accurate and what not so much about the previous dentist’s plan. I felt that Dr. Feldman is very knowledgeable and honest, and I decided to continue on with him. It is well worth my long drive to Gainesville knowing that I am getting the most skilled and professional treatment possible.

I did the $125 new patient special along with a teeth cleaning. I was so impressed. The vibe of the office is so cozy chic. The front desk staff especially Candice is so helpful over the phone and in person. Heather did all of my X-rays and cleaning and she was wonderful! I liked that they didn’t constantly try to push costly additions. They were very honest and straightforward, no gimmicks. Will definitely be back.
